1. What is an open rehearsal, and how is it different from a performance?
An open rehearsal is a behind-the-scenes experience where you can witness the creative process of dance-making. You’ll see dancers trying new things, making mistakes, and receiving notes from the choreographer. It’s an opportunity to observe the art in progress as dances are being created and refined.
In contrast, a performance is the polished, finished product. By performance time, all the elements—choreography, music, costumes, and lighting—are complete and rehearsed for presentation to an audience.
2. Can I bring my children?
Yes! Open rehearsals and performances are designed to be welcoming to all, including children.
3. How long is the open rehearsal?
The rehearsal typically lasts about 2 hours.
4. Can I take photos or videos during the open rehearsal?
Yes, but please be mindful of our dancers and choreographers. We ask that you avoid using flash or causing any distractions during the rehearsal.
5. Will there be an opportunity to ask questions or interact with the dancers?
Yes! There will be a Q&A session, giving you the chance to interact with the dancers and creative team.
6. What should I wear or bring to an open rehearsal?
Come as you are! Jeans, sneakers, or shorts are perfect. Feel free to wear your Shades T-shirt or other paraphernalia to show your support.
7. Are open rehearsals suitable for someone new to dance?
Yes! Open rehearsals are an excellent way for newcomers to experience and learn about dance in a relaxed and accessible setting.
8. What is the seating arrangement?
Doors open at 6 PM, and seating is general admission (GA), so arrive early for the best seats.
9. How early should I arrive?
Doors open at 6 PM. We recommend arriving early to find a good seat and get settled before the rehearsal begins.
10. Is there a way to support the company after attending the open rehearsal?
Yes! Feel free to join our mailing list if you have not already done so. (The email with which you purchased your ticket was automatically added). You can also follow us on Instagram and Facebook at Shades Dance Theater to stay updated on all our events and performances.
